About Me
I am an attorney who has practiced for 29 years in the areas of criminal defense, family law, and civil litigation. I am ADHD, and, over the course of my career, I have discovered that I have a high aptitude for innovation and technology: I excel at both designing and implementing unique solutions. While I enjoy practicing law, the legal profession is not particularly inclusive when it comes to neurodivergent individuals and is often resistant to innovation. Consequently, I am investigating opportunities to move into technology-related fields that will allow me greater creative outlet. Ideally, I would like to find a part time position that would allow me to maintain a part-time law practice, but, for the right kind of opportunity, I would consider a full-time position.
Ideal Workplace Values
My ideal workplace would be neurodivergent-friendly with a mission-committed staff. I perform best in bottom-up management environments where ideas are openly debated and discussed in a respectful manner. I enjoy training younger co-workers and strive to help them discover and play to their strengths.

My Neuro-exceptional talent
While, over the course of my career, I have struggled my ADHD-related disabilities, I also became aware that excelled at certain types of projects that most of my neurotypical colleagues could not possibly accomplish. I have been fortunate to find professional roles that allowed me to discover my ADHD superpowers: My first neurodivergent superpower is hyper focus combined with perfectionism. While perfectionism has its downsides, I have found that mine allows me to quickly spot flaws in processes — mechanical flaws as well as those that arise from a failure account for the complexity of human nature. When I encounter complex problems, my hyper focus compels me to dig and dig and dig until I understand the full nature of the problem and its cause. Once I have a complete picture, my hyper focus and perfectionism allow me to develop and implement a solution — often using only existing resources — that is as effective in the real world as it appears on paper. My second superpower is empathy. I have discovered that I am more sensitive to emotions of others than are most neurotypical people. In a healthy, non-toxic environment, this can be a valuable asset. My empathy has allowed me to design technology-based tools that even my most technology-adverse colleagues enjoyed using. My third superpower is my curiosity and thirst for new knowledge. Over the course of my career, I have most enjoyed positions that required me to learn an entirely unfamiliar area of law and allowed me to combine my new knowledge with my prior expertise to design novel, more effective approached to old problems.

Working since Dec 2020 Dec 2020 Current | Attorney & Owner - Milliken Law LLC Due to difficulties that arose from the COVID-19 pandemic, I decided to leave my law firm and establish an independent legal practice. The majority of my clients from my previous firm and my paralegal elected to follow me to my new practice. In a space of two weeks, I single-handedly set up our Google workspace, our VOIP phone system, and our legal case management system (including the file transfer) all while managing a caseload of approximately 150 legal matters. I worked with community residents, neighborhood stakeholders and police officers to develop effective proactive strategies to reduce crime and improve quality of life. It was a tough job, but I loved it because it demanded continuous learning and allowed for great creativity.
